Keeping dogs in a home, even when life falls apart.
Second Leash Foundation is built for the gap nobody else fills — the moment between hardship and a shelter intake form. We remove the vet bill, the lease, the adoption fee, the 72-hour clock — and every other reason a dog loses their home.
Our Mission - No dog should lose their home because life got hard. Second Leash Foundation™ steps in before the surrender happens — paying veterinarians directly, keeping pantry shelves stocked, funding crisis boarding when housing falls through, and standing by senior dogs whose owners can no longer do it alone.
And when a dog is already in the shelter system, we remove every barrier between them and a home — the fee, the fear, the landlord, the clock.
How We Help - Every dog on our waitlist has a name. Every one of them has a person who loves them — someone who did not choose hardship, who did not stop caring, who simply ran out of options. We are the call that gets made when a dog is about to lose their home.
We serve all U.S. states for vet, food, adoption, and senior assistance. Short-term boarding is available in DFW only at this time on a case-by case basis. Typical review: 24–72 hours (urgent vet cases faster).
